School Holiday Activities to Save Your Sanity

school holiday fun

Love them or hate them, school holidays come around so often, you’ll wonder if your kids even go to school at all! Parents everywhere start hunting for school holiday activities which will keep their kids busy and save their sanity at the same time. Is that even possible? Yes, it is and I’ll prove it by sharing our top 7 sanity saving school holiday activities

7 Popular School Holiday Activities for Primary Aged Kids

Repeat this mantra: it’s okay. I will survive. The kids will go back to school … eventually! But in all truthfulness, it’s quite nice to be able to relax the routines for a few days. Spend the morning in your pyjamas, eat breakfast at dinner time and binge watch Netflix. It’s when the kids get bored with this and start demanding you entertain them, that things become more perilous. But relax, because that’s when you pull out this helpful list of amazing school holiday activities, which include:

  1. Large scale artworks – ever noticed that bigger things are more fun? By providing large rolls of newsprint or sheets of paper joined together, you offer your kids the canvas of their dreams. Pop it on the table, the floor or even outside and let them go for gold. Don’t forget to provide felt pens, glitter glue and stickers! If your kids prefer colouring rather than drawing, our Glitter Art sets provide hours of fun and have everything they need already included.
  2. Story Time – reading seems to be a lost art nowadays. With kids stuck to iPads and computers, reading an actual book is becoming a novelty. Schedule a time each day to read to your child. There’s nothing wrong with reading the same book each day, but if you need some more options, we’ve got an amazing collection of books for all ages.
  3. Disco Dance Party – get out the glow sticks and pump up the stereo. It’s time to host a disco in your lounge. Let everyone take turns to play their favourite song which everyone then dances to.
  4. Start a Band – wait! I know this can be the stuff of nightmares for many parents, but playing with musical toy instruments is a great learning experience. Sure, you’re going to get those first ten minutes making the noise from hell. But after that, kids start experimenting with the sounds they can make and playing actual music. If you don’t believe me, try it for yourself!
  5. Build a Garden – gardens are wonderful time fillers. Whether you’re digging in the dirt or building a miniature tray garden with plastic animals and mud, there’s nothing like getting your hands dirty to take up a few hours.
  6. Bubble Art – here’s where you can get creative! Head outside to make large bubble sculptures with our Big Bubble Wand. Or if the weather’s not great, fill a cup with a mixture of water, dishwashing liquid and a few drops of paint. Use a straw to blow bubbles to the top of the cup, then place paper on top to capture the bubbles. Hours of school holiday fun!
  7. Puppet Show – whether you’re using sock puppets or our plush Husky hand puppet, puppet shows provide hours of entertainment for kids and are one of my favourite school holiday activities.

The key to having amazing school holidays is variety. If you’ve got plenty of activities up your sleeves, everyone wins! If you’d like some more inspirational ideas, check out our online toy shop. We’ve got activities, games and toys for all ages, guaranteed to keep them smiling and keep you sane!
